Cechy i cele programu: W ramach różnorodnych zajęć studenci poznają kulturę krajów basenu Morza Śródziemnego w różnych jej aspektach, pogłębiając wiedzę dzięki uczestnictwu w wykładach monograficznych oraz specjalistycznych seminariach, uwzględniających dzieje Śródziemnomorza od starożytności po wiek XXI. Studenci uczestniczą również w konwersatoriach prowadzonych w językach śródziemnomorskich (po hiszpańsku, nowogrecku, francusku i po włosku, a od niedawna i po rosyjsku), kończąc edukację ze znajomością co najmniej jednego języka z puli do wyboru na poziomie B2+ oraz drugiego wybranego języka (także spoza puli) na poziomie B2. Zdobycie szerokich kompetencji językowych na poziomie zaawansowanym umożliwia studentom również konwersatorium z zakresu komunikacji międzykulturowej, prowadzone w języku angielskim. Kończąc studia, absolwenci Cywilizacji Śródziemnomorskiej posiadają zatem niezbędne narzędzia do zrozumienia kultury danego regionu, niezwykle cenne również ze względu na wymogi rynku pracy. Zajęcia odbywają się w okolicy Kampusu Centralnego UW w Pałacu Zamojskich Nowy Świat 69 oraz Krakowskie Przedmieście 1, a także w budynku Kolegium „Artes Liberales” w Białej Willi ul. Dobra 72 w sąsiedztwie Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej. Ponadto potrafią interpretować teksty kultury z uwzględnieniem nowatorskiego ujęcia problematyki Śródziemnomorza jako dziedzictwa, którego siła oddziaływania wykracza poza geograficzne granice regionu. To ujęcie eksperymentalne i unikalne w kontekście studiów kulturoznawczych, pozwalające absolwentom na szerokie spojrzenie na kulturę w ogóle. Dzięki temu absolwenci stają się gotowi do prowadzenia dialogu z respektem dla odmienności jego uczestników oraz z zachowaniem szacunku dla tożsamości historyczno-kulturowej regionów i państw. Tego rodzaju kompetencje zapewniają absolwentom atrakcyjną pozycję na rynku pracy, opierającym się w coraz większym stopniu na współpracy międzynarodowej. Po ukończeniu studiów absolwenci są gotowi do kontynuowania edukacji w szkole doktorskiej oraz rozpoczęcia pracy badawczej; są jednocześnie otwarci i przygotowani do pracy poza systemem szkolnictwa wyższego – w instytucjach kultury, edukacji i tych wszystkich sektorach gospodarki, gdzie wymagana jest wiedza o kulturze i tradycji krajów basenu Morza Śródziemnego (np. animator kultury, redaktor, tłumacz, przewodnik turystyczny, dziennikarz, pracownik dyplomacji, pracownik instytucji europejskich). |

Learning outcomes
The graduate student has achieved learning outcomes assigned to the Cultural Studies Programme: Mediterranean Culture, postgraduate level.
In terms of acquired knowledge, the graduate student is expected to:
- know the extent to which the Greco-Roman culture has influenced later periods of cultural history and contemporary culture.
- understand the latest developments in the theory and methodology of cultural studies and classical reception studies.
- have command of advanced methods of analysis and interpretation of cultural works, traditions, theories, and schools of research.
- have fundamental knowledge about the language and culture of a selected Mediterranean region (leading up to specialised knowledge), and recognise historical and cultural relations between different Mediterranean cultures.
- be familiar with cultural processes and the organisation of cultural institutions, including intellectual property laws, in Poland and a selected region.
- know and understand disciplinary relations and interactions within the humanities and cultural studies; have basic knowledge of the interdisciplinary approach in cultural and intercultural studies.
- understand the relations between selected disciplines within cultural studies, humanities, and social sciences.
- know and understand the specificity of the regional studies.
In terms of skills, the graduate student can:
- independently formulate a research problem, select and critically analyse and evaluate sources according to specific criteria, apply a research method, draw conclusions, recognise various perspectives and standpoints, present the results of research using modern technological solutions and multimedia.
- carry out a critical analysis and evaluation of selected works of culture as well as assess the cultural and historical value of these works.
- demonstrate the results of research in writing and speech (such as conference speech, academic debates) in keeping with the principles of composition and academic argument; test their opinions in an open debate; use the language of instruction (Polish or other) at the upper intermediate level (including specialised vocabulary) in various contexts.
- plan and organise group work (establish goals, stages, roles, and methods); participate in group work in various capacities.
- plan and organise stages of personal development and learning as well as oversee the progress of individual members in a group work.
- prepare an outline of a presentation in writing and speech in respect of various expectations of the recipients using basic digital and online solutions.
In terms of social skills, the graduate student is prepared to:
- critically evaluate acquired knowledge, appreciates its role and significance, and understands the importance of knowledge in the process of solving practical and theoretical problems.
- assume the responsibility for fostering culture and engage in social work creatively.
- follow academic ethos in the process of their personal academic development.
- participate in the various forms of cultural life.
- participate in a discussion, respects the opinions of their interlocutors and understands the principles of tolerance and cultural diversity.
