Applied linguistics, Extramural, MA programme (NZ2-LS)

1. The most important learning outcomes for the MA study programme:
After completing part-time MA studies, graduates:
- have extensive theoretical knowledge regarding translation studies and the praxeology of translation, know advanced translation techniques, demonstrate professional translation competence with regard to the translation of texts representing various domains, including the specialist ones, from language A into at least one foreign language and the reverse, know common types of translation and interpreting: written, consecutive, simultaneous, sight, audiovisual, community
- know at least one foreign language at the C2 level; have extensive and solid vocabulary in various thematic fields, know the terminology of basic languages for specific purposes, know morphological and syntactic structures of target languages, know grammatical systems of the languages of specialization
- know the terminology of linguistics and related disciplines at the advanced level, know the main directions and methods of linguistic research, understand grammatical terminology, have knowledge of selected pragmatic determinants of given linguistic systems
- have extensive knowledge regarding the methodology of linguistic or literary research, know academic style and vocabulary, know linguistic databases,
- know common computer-assisted translation tools, know the specificity and methodology of specialist translation and interpreting, including sworn translation
- know how to use appropriate strategies and techniques required in translation and interpreting between 3 languages, i.e. language A (Polish), language B (first foreign language) and Language C (second foreign language) including specialised languages; translate written texts, interpret consecutively and simultaneously; are proficient in sight interpreting, audiovisual translation and community interpreting.
- use a broad spectrum of research methods applicable in text linguistics; identify the structure of texts as well as their situational and cultural features; can perform a multilevel analysis of a highly specialised text; can report the results of scientific research in the form of articles and research papers.
- can speak fluently and coherently on a given topic (in at least one foreign language); use correct syntactic structures; use correct stylistics and phonetics; create clear, properly structured texts adapted to the needs and expectations of audiences; develop a clear line of argument and use appropriate examples and additional arguments which support his/ her position.
- know how to use dictionaries and text sources; use new media to solve linguistic problems, know the techniques of data collection
- identify and solve dilemmas accompanying the processes of translation and interpreting; solve professional problems.
