Kierunek lingwistyka stosowana przyporządkowany jest do dziedziny nauk humanistycznych w dyscyplinach językoznawstwo (dyscyplina wiodąca) oraz literaturoznawstwo. Studia na kierunku lingwistyka stosowana umożliwiają studiowanie dwóch języków obcych: pierwszego (tzw. język B) i drugiego (tzw. język C).

Kierunek lingwistyka stosowana jest prowadzony w dwóch lokalizacjach: przy ulicy Dobrej 55 oraz przy ulicy Szturmowej 4 w Warszawie.

Na kierunku realizowane są następujące specjalności:

Przekład i technologie tłumaczeniowe – w językach:

angielski, francuski, hiszpański, niemiecki, rosyjski – jako język B, czyli studiowany pierwszy język obcy;
angielski, francuski, hiszpański, japoński, niemiecki, rosyjski, szwedzki, – jako język C, czyli studiowany drugi język obcy;

Terminologia i tłumaczenia specjalistyczne – w językach:

angielski, niemiecki, rosyjski, włoski – jako język B, czyli studiowany pierwszy język obcy;
angielski, niemiecki, rosyjski, włoski – jako język C, czyli studiowany drugi język obcy.

Tłumaczenia ustne – w językach:

angielski, francuski, hiszpański, niemiecki, rosyjski – jako język B, czyli studiowany pierwszy język obcy;
angielski, francuski, hiszpański, japoński, niemiecki, rosyjski, szwedzki – jako język C, czyli studiowany drugi język obcy.

Wybór specjalności następuje po przyjęciu na kierunek.

Na specjalność tłumaczenia ustne obowiązuje dodatkowy sprawdzian predyspozycji w obu językach obcych, przeprowadzany po przyjęciu na kierunek.

Opcjonalna specjalność nauczycielska realizowana jest w jednym z języków (B lub C):

angielski, francuski, hiszpański, niemiecki, rosyjski, włoski. Wybór tej specjalności – jako dodatkowej – student deklaruje po przyjęciu na kierunek. Niezbędnym warunkiem jest posiadanie na dyplomie ukończenia studiów pierwszego stopnia uprawnień do nauczania jednego języka obcego (B lub C) w przedszkolu i szkole podstawowej.

W ramach kierunku lingwistyka stosowana student doskonali i utrwala znajomość dwóch języków obcych, uczestnicząc w ćwiczeniach z terminologii poszczególnych dziedzin, warsztatach przekładowych, a także w zajęciach językoznawczych i literaturoznawczych prowadzonych w studiowanych językach.

Kompetencję przekładową rozwija podczas warsztatów tłumaczeniowych pisemnych, w tym wspomaganych komputerowo, audiowizualnych, konsekutywnych i symultanicznych, zajęć z lokalizacji, zajęć projektowych o charakterze terminologicznym, a kompetencję kulturową podczas zajęć literaturoznawczych oraz wykładów specjalizacyjnych.

Kompetencje badawcze student rozwija w ramach wykładów i konwersatoriów z językoznawstwa, w tym m.in. metodologii badań nad przekładem, socjologii przekładu, przekładu literackiego i specjalistycznego, leksykografii specjalistycznej, lingwistyki tekstu specjalistycznego, terminologii, translatoryki, teorii przekładu ustnego i przekładu środowiskowego, przekładu uwzględniającego specjalne potrzeby (respeaking, audiodeskrypcja), w ramach wykładów z literaturoznawstwa, a także w ramach proseminariów i seminariów przygotowujących do napisania pracy magisterskiej.

W ramach opcjonalnej specjalności nauczycielskiej student zdobywa niezbędną wiedzę i umiejętności z zakresu nauczania języków obcych w ramach przedmiotów metodycznych i pedagogicznych.

Program studiów magisterskich umożliwia studentowi modelowanie swojej ścieżki kształcenia. Większość oferowanych przedmiotów to zajęcia do wyboru, dzięki czemu student ma możliwość, z jednej strony, rozwijania różnych zainteresowań, a z drugiej – skupienia się na pogłębionym studiowaniu wybranej dyscypliny oraz specjalizacji.

Wielkim atutem studiów na kierunku lingwistyka stosowana jest mobilność studentów. Polega ona na realizacji zagranicznych studiów częściowych w ramach programu Erasmus+. Wyjazdy stypendialne studentów kierunku lingwistyka stosowana stały się konstytutywnym elementem studiów. Wyraźna tendencja wzrostowa zaznacza się także wśród studentów przyjeżdżających na studia na kierunku lingwistyka stosowana w ramach programu Erasmus+. Dzięki temu kierunek lingwistyka stosowana wyróżnia wysoki stopień umiędzynarodowienia.

Absolwenci studiów magisterskich na kierunku lingwistyka stosowana posiadają następujące umiejętności i kwalifikacje:

Każdy absolwent posiada zbliżoną do rodzimej znajomość dwóch języków obcych w mowie i piśmie (kompetencja komunikacyjna na poziomie C2 biegłości Europejskiego Systemu Opisu Kształcenia Językowego Rady Europy)
Każdy absolwent posiada zaawansowaną umiejętność przekładu w ramach trzech języków, tj. A (język polski), B (studiowany pierwszy język obcy) i C (studiowany drugi język obcy).
Każdy absolwent posiada umiejętności umożliwiające podejmowanie wszelkiego rodzaju prac wymagających bardzo dobrej znajomości języków i kultury danych obszarów językowych, w tym głównie prac tłumaczeniowych.
Każdy absolwent jest przygotowany do prowadzenia pogłębionych badań naukowych z zakresu językoznawstwa, w tym stosowanego, i literaturoznawstwa oraz realizowania projektów badawczych w tych dyscyplinach.

Ponadto absolwent lingwistyki stosowanej na specjalności przekład i technologie tłumaczeniowe :

potrafi dokonać tłumaczenia pisemnego dziedzinowego o znacznym stopniu złożoności w ramach trzech studiowanych języków,
potrafi dokonać doboru właściwych narzędzi w procesie tłumaczenia, w tym zaawansowanych technik informacyjno-komunikacyjnych takich jak narzędzia CAT, tłumaczenie maszynowe i postedycja,
zna podstawy lokalizacji,
zna i stosuje techniki tłumaczenia audiowizualnego takie jak napisy, wersja lektorska, dubbing
potrafi kierować pracą zespołu w projekcie tłumaczeniowym,
potrafi działać na rzecz dostępności mediów dla osób z niepełnosprawnościami poprzez tworzenie i popularyzację w społeczeństwie audiodeskrypcji, napisów międzyjęzykowych, napisów dla niesłyszących oraz tłumaczeń na język migowy.

Ponadto absolwent lingwistyki stosowanej specjalności terminologia i tłumaczenia specjalistyczne :

potrafi w zaawansowanym stopniu posługiwać się specjalistyczną terminologią (np. społeczno-ekonomiczną, prawno-prawniczą, polityczną, naukowo-techniczną, medyczną, z dziedziny kultury i sztuki, literaturoznawczą) w studiowanych językach obcych,
potrafi tłumaczyć teksty specjalistyczne o średnim i wysokim stopniu nasycenia terminologią fachową wykorzystując do tego dostępne na rynku narzędzia elektroniczne wspomagające pracę tłumacza,
jest przygotowany do udziału w projektach tłumaczeniowych i współpracy w projektach terminologicznych: posiada umiejętność pracy z tekstem specjalistycznym, potrafi zweryfikować i ocenić przedstawione tłumaczenie, posiada wiedzę o tworzeniu różnych zasobów terminologicznych wspomagających pracę z tekstami fachowymi.

Ponadto absolwent lingwistyki stosowanej na specjalności tłumaczenia ustne :

potrafi wykorzystać wiedzę z zakresu teorii przekładu ustnego przez dobór właściwych narzędzi, w tym zaawansowanych technik informacyjno-komunikacyjnych takich jak narzędzia CAI,
zna środowisko pracy tłumacza ustnego i proces tłumaczenia ustnego (konferencyjnego i środowiskowego),
potrafi przetłumaczyć różne rodzaje tekstów/wypowiedzi ustnych z języków B i C na język rodzimy (język A) oraz z języka rodzimego (język A) na język B (i C) – konsekutywnie i symultanicznie,
potrafi kierować pracą zespołu tłumaczy ustnych, a w szczególności współpracować z innymi tłumaczami podczas wykonywania zadania tłumaczeniowego.

Ponadto absolwent, który zrealizował dodatkowy moduł

opcjonalną specjalność nauczycielską – uzyskuje uprawnienia do nauczania jednego języka obcego (B lub C) we wszystkich typach szkół i rodzajach placówek, zgodnie z Rozporządzeniem Ministerstwa Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyższego z dnia 17 stycznia 2012 r.

The graduate has achieved the learning outcomes defined for the study programme, including the learning outcomes defined for the obligatory specialisation ‘Translation and Translation Technologies’.
Upon the completion of their studies, the MA graduate:
1. understands the role of language in communication between people and cultures
2. knows and understands the main trends and contemporary research directions in the fields of linguistics and literary studies as well as the main research centres specializing in linguistics and literary studies
3. is able to search for, analyse, evaluate and select information in their mother tongue and in foreign languages
4. is proficient in two foreign languages (B and C) in speech and writing at C2 level of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
5. is able to identify cultural elements specific to the language studied and to interpret the social and historical transformations taking place within the language area
6. is ready to use various research-based criteria for the evaluation of various types of translation
7. knows and understands the key concepts in translation studies and the main trends in contemporary translation studies
8. knows and understands translation strategies and techniques used in various kinds of written and audiovisual texts and in various translation contexts
9. is able to use their theoretical knowledge in translation studies to solve complex translation problems through creative interpretation of source texts, appropriate selection of sources (e.g. professional dictionaries, glossaries, corpora), as well as adequate evaluation of the translation function and the choice of translation strategies appropriate for the target text and its audience
10. is able to apply knowledge in translation studies by selecting appropriate tools in the translation process, including advanced information and communication techniques, such as CAT tools, machine translation and post-editing
11. is able to translate various types of texts from language B and C to their mother tongue (language A) and from their mother tongue (language A) into language B and C, to recognize the type of the source text and to translate it into the target language, selecting appropriate equivalents, fitting the given social context
12. is ready to responsibly assume the role of a professional translator of written and audiovisual texts, taking into account the changing social needs and market demands
The number of ECTS credits required to graduate from MA studies and to obtain an MA degree – 120. The number of semesters – 4.

The graduate has achieved the learning outcomes defined for the study programme, including the learning outcomes defined for the obligatory specialisation ‘Terminology and Specialised Translation’.
Upon the completion of their studies, the MA graduate:
1. understands the role of language in communication between people and cultures,
2. knows and understands the main trends and contemporary research directions in the fields of linguistics and literary studies as well as the main research centres specializing in linguistics and literary studies,
3. is able to search for, analyse, evaluate and select information in their mother tongue and in foreign languages,
4. is proficient in two foreign languages (B and C) in speech and writing at C2 level of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages,
5. is able to identify cultural elements specific to the language studied and to interpret the social and historical transformations taking place within the studied language area,
6. is ready to use various research-based criteria for the evaluation of various types of translation,
7. knows and understands the structure of the native language (A) and two foreign languages (B and C),
8. knows and understands the research methods of contemporary terminology, lexicography, corpus linguistics, text linguistics, translation studies and literary text analysis,
9. knows and understands the work environment of a terminologist and translator as well as the interpretation and/or translation process,

- developing professional achievements of a specialised text translator and terminologist,

- adhere to and develop the principles of the ethics of the profession, as set out in the translator's code, and act to comply with these principles, join organisations associating translators and undertake activities to popularise the translator’s profession in society.
