Legal basis: SENATE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WARSAW RESOLUTION NO 289 from March 21st, 2018 on determining learning outcomes for the American Studies program

Knowledge: an alumnus knows and understands:
- the position and significance of humanities and social sciences in scholarship, the specificities of the fields and their methodologies, relations to other fields of study and their main development trends
- theories, methodologies, terminology, methods, tools and techniques of gathering data, select traditions, research schools, and directions of development specific to various fields of the humanities and social sciences, vital for the research of cultural and social phenomena in the United States
- the paradigm of interdisciplinarity of American Studies research used to study the society and culture of the United States
- the characteristics of a person as a subject constituting social structures and the rules under which they function, including the position of an individual and the types of social bonds and structures, their evolution, governing regularities, norms, and rules
- products of American culture and the historical, social, and political contexts specific to them, as well as signs and processes characteristic of contemporary cultural, social, and political life in the United States
- the system of norms and rules, legal, economic, cultural, and social conditions in the United States in a historical and contemporary context which are the basis for American Studies
- basic concepts and rules from the field of Industrial Property Protection and Copyright Law
- basic rules of how the American economy works and creation and development of various forms of entrepreneurship in the United States
- how systems and institutions specific to the field of American Studies concerning the United States work

Skills: an alumnus is able to:
- formulate a research question, recognize, understand, interpret, explain and analyze causes and the course of cultural and social processes and phenomena in the United States using sources and standard research methods and tools from the field of humanities and social sciences
- recognize and interpret products of American culture and conduct an analysis of them using standard methods, allowing for an evaluation of their significance and impact on the historical and cultural process of the United States
- apply basic theoretical knowledge to describe and analyze cultural and social processes and phenomena in the United States
- conduct and analysis of the cultural and social processes and phenomena in the United States and correctly use normative systems to solve problems from the field of American Studies concerning the United States
- communicate about topics from the field of American Studies concerning the United States using terminology in English; know the rules of intercultural communication
- gather and select data from various sources from the field of American Studies, integrate the acquired information, interpret them, draw conclusions, formulate opinions, prepare and give presentations and speeches in English on general / basic issues from the field of American Studies concerning the United States, as well as prepare written essays in English
- demonstrate knowledge of a foreign language other than English on a B1 level in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- participate, under the supervision of an academic advisor, in the preparation of (individual and group) research projects from the field of American Studies concerning the United States
- further expand and develop knowledge about the United States through independent study

Social competences: an alumnus is ready to:
- use the interdisciplinary knowledge they gained in the field of American Studies concerning the United States to formulate their own opinions
- cooperate and work in a group
- continue their education, formulate information and opinions about the United States in a clear manner
