Learning outcomes
Knowledge - the graduate knows and understands:
- the basic facts, theories, processes and phenomena relating to the relevant study areas in the teaching of foreign languages, which have practical application in foreign language teaching at pre-school and the first and second educational stages, and teaching social studies at the second educational stage
- the methods, norms, procedures and standards of practice in institutions related to the teaching of foreign languages
- to a basic extent, the professional responsibilities of those involved in educational, care-giving, and cultural activities
- to a basic extent, the methodology to perform common tasks; the standards and procedures used in different educational areas
- to a basic extent, the purpose, organization and functioning of institutions related to the teaching of foreign languages and social studies
Skills - the graduate is able to:
- plan and implement projects related to typical foreign language teaching environments (including preschool) and teaching social studies at the second educational stage
- assess the suitability of a variety of methods, procedures and best practices, and select and apply the appropriate approach with the goal of accomplishing tasks and solving problems related to foreign language teaching and teaching social studies
- use basic theories to analyse the motives and patterns of human behaviour in order to diagnose a situation and deliver practical strategies for different teaching contexts
- use basic theories to analyse, interpret and design strategies and educational activities; and is able to deliver solutions to specific problems as well as forecast the psychological and pedagogical consequences of the decision-making process
- conduct educational research at a basic level to develop a diagnosis of educational needs
- communicate, using a variety of channels and techniques, with experts in those academic subjects that are relevant to their course of studies both in Polish and another language
- use language skills at CEFR level C1 for the main language specialisation; use language skills at CEFR level B2* for the second foreign language (lektorat)
* For students whose main specialisation is teaching the English language and secondary specialisation is teaching social studies it can be CEFR B1 level, on the basis of § 2 ust. 5 Order nr 59 of the Rector of the University of Warsaw of 1 December 2014 on the language proficiency certification (Monitor UW 2014 item 255) and Resolution nr 24 of the Council of Centre for Foreign Language Teacher Training and European Education of the University of Warsaw of 5 October 2009 with further modifications concerning the rules of taking and passing foreign language courses for extramural students.
Social competences - the graduate is prepared to:
- reflect on the level of their skills and knowledge, constantly develop professionally and personally, self-assess their competences, improve their skills, plan their development and training
- actively participate in those groups, organisations and institutions that implement educational activities and communicate with specialists and non-specialists in the field of education
- take action both in academic and non-academic matters during and outside school hours, maintain a consistently professional and positive attitude towards their role as a teacher
Based on the Regulation of the Minister of National Education of 14 February 2017 concerning the Core Curriculum for preschool education and general primary education (Journal of Laws 2017 item 356) graduates whose secondary sepcialisation was teaching history and civic education are prepared to teach social studies.
