Learning outcomes

The graduate achieves the following learning outcomes defined for the study programme:
- understands the processes and factors shaping the Earth with regard to the geology of the Quaternary, geomorphology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, palaeontology, geochemistry, mineralogy, petrology and ore geology;
- possesses knowledge on the models of geological and geographic settings, geospatial databases, geological and environmental data, specialist computer software, as well as methods of data input, processing and visualization in software based on geological databases;
- knows the working modes and analytical potential of particular analytic equipment, and rules of optimal research planning with application of available analytic facilities;
- possesses knowledge on the methods of obtaining and accounting research funds; knows legal regulations with regard to prospecting and exploitation of mineral resources and conducting geological studies, regulated by the Geological and Mining Law, Environmental Law, Water Law and other legal acts, is aware of the rules of concession and administrative procedures with regard to geological activities, is aware of the consequences resulting from non-adherence to the rules of intellectual property rights; knows methods of developing self-entrepreneurship;
- knows how to use internet resources of geological data, is capable of their verification, uses simple and advanced computer methods for geological calculations, descriptively or graphically interprets the calculation results;
- concisely characterizes the geological setting of particular parts of Poland and selected regions of the world; compares parts of Poland with regard to mineral and rock resources, explains the origin of particular resources with regard to the geological history of a given area and its geological setting;
- unassisted interprets the research results and has his/her own opinion on different concepts; efficiently uses diverse Polish and foreign scientific references and critically evaluate their contents; presents research results and state of knowledge referring to these studies based on existing Polish and foreign references using multimedia techniques; is capable of writing a research study in Polish;
- plans empirical field studies (type of investigations, their schedule, field verification of the results) and query of field archives in order to obtain material to achieve the intended scientific or practical effect, selects research sites, collects samples (of water, soil and rocks) or specimens using appropriate techniques.
