Physical Geography - learning outcomes for specialisation
In scope of knowledge
• Knows the role and significance of natural resources to humans and understands the interrelations between the natural environment and society.
• Has advanced knowledge on the most important contemporary environmental and social problems on a local, regional, and global scale and can explain their genesis and consequences.
• Demonstrates knowledge of spatial development regulations on a local and regional scale according to the rules of spatial order and sustainable development.
• Demonstrates knowledge of advanced concept categories in scope of physical geography, human geography, and geoinformatics.
• Knows and applies descriptive and mathematical statistics, spatial analysis methods, and qualitative research methods.
In scope of skills
• Knows how to use theory to describe and solve a scientific problem.
• Selects and applies the optimal methods for spatial data acquisition, analysis, and presentation.
• Knows how to plan and carry out the research in scope of the chosen specialisation.
In scope of social competence
• Understands the value of the geosphere’s diversity and has a practical sense of responsibility for the condition of the Earth’s ecosystems and resources.
• Can be business-oriented in the development and realisation of ecological, social, and economic projects.
Study scope: 120 ECTS, 4 semesters
ECTS credits per class:
• for general sciences: between 31 and 44 depending on specialisation,
• practical classes (assignments and seminars): between 63 and 80.5 depending on specialisation,
• available modular classes (modules: general university classes or classes in another study area, extramural classes, faculty general classes, selected classes in scope of the own specialisation, selected classes in scope of other specialisations): 36 or 38 depending on specialisation.
Work placements: optional, 120 hours, 3 ECTS
The main objectives of the placements include the following:
- advancing the knowledge acquired from the studies and developing its practical applica-tion,
- showing the students the functioning regulations of various institutions and the specifics of work at various positions,
- developing skills needed for future professional work, including analytical and organisa-tional skills and the ability to work in a group,
- preparing the student for autonomous work and responsibility for entrusted assignments,
- showing the students their capabilities on the labour market,
- creating conditions to activate the students professionally on the labour market
