Professional status:

Qualified teacher status which enables the holder of this document to teach the English language as the main subject and the German language as the secondary subject in kindergartens (pre-schools) and in the first and second educational stages (primary education).

Learning outcomes

Based on the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 2 November 2011 on the National Qualifications Frameworks for higher education (Dziennik Ustaw [Journal of Laws] 2011 No. 253, item 1520)

1. The teaching outcomes relevant for the practical educational profile of the undergraduate studies programme in the area of foreign language teaching:

On completion of the programme of study the graduate:
- demonstrates a knowledge of the basic academic terms used in the study areas relevant for teaching foreign languages
- has a basic knowledge of the methodology of implementing tasks, norms, procedures and the standards of good practice applied in institutions related to the teaching of foreign languages
- use language skills at CEFR level C1 for the main and any additional language specialisation
- has the necessary level of self-study skills to use a variety of sources (in both their first and a foreign language) and new technologies (ICT) in order to acquire knowledge and develop their professional competences in teaching foreign languages
- is capable of planning and implementing projects related to teaching foreign languages in a school context and in other institutions where the teaching of foreign languages takes place
- has the basic skills to evaluate the quality of foreign language teaching
- is able to interact and work in a group, performing the various roles required in team work
- is aware of their role in the preservation of the cultural heritage of the region, country and Europe
- is aware of the level of their skills and knowledge and understands the need for on-going training and personal development, is capable of evaluating their own competences and also continues to perfect their skills
- is committed to the need to take action both in academic and non-academic matters during and outside school hours, maintaining a consistently professional and positive attitude towards their role as a teacher.

2. The programme of study comprises six semesters and has a credit value of 180 ECTS.

3. The programme is based on the standards for education which leads to a professional teaching qualification on the basis of the regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 17 January 2012 on the standards for education which leads to a professional teaching qualification (Dziennik Ustaw [Journal of Laws] 6 Feburary 2012, item 131).

4. The total number of ECTS credits which the student has to achieve in courses fundamental for the area of study which the learning outcomes for the particular programme of study, its level and profile, refer to is as follows: for the language path1, which is the teaching of the first and second foreign language - 83.5 ECTS, and for the path: the teaching of one foreign language and of the subject 'History and civic education' - 99 ECTS. By the language path 'the teaching of the first and second foreign language' we understand the student's choice of Module 4A - the teaching of the second foreign language. The module comprises: core content of Module 1 - 36 ECTS, psychology and pedagogy from Module 2 - 11 ECTS, didactics from Module 3 - 9 ECTS core content and subject didactics from Module 4A - 11.5 ECTS, Module 5 - 6 ECTS, the diploma seminar from Module 7 - 10 ECTS. The total of ECTS credits awarded is 83.5.
By the path 'the teaching of one foreign language and of the subject 'History and civic education' we understand the student's choice of Module 4B - teaching 'History and civic education'. The module comprises: core content of Module 1 - 36 ECTS, psychology and pedagogy from Module 2 - 11 ECTS, didactics from Module 3 - 9 ECTS, core content and subject didactics from Module 4B - 27 ECTS, Module 5 - 6 ECTS, the diploma seminar from Module 7 - 10 ECTS. The total of ECTS credits awarded is 99.

The total number of ECTS credits which the student has to achieve in practical courses, including laboratories and projects, is 153.5 ECTS.

As far as module courses are concerned, the following courses have to be chosen: Module 4A or 4B - awarded 33 ECTS credits, a practical course of another foreign language (lektorat) - awarded 10 ECTS credits, an optional university course - awarded 9 ECTS credits, and a diploma seminar - awarded 10 ECTS credits. This makes 62 ECTS credits altogether, which is 34.4 percent of the total number of ECTS credits.
Ects credits were calculated for the 2012/13 academic year, according to the Regulation mentioned in point 3.

5. The following types of practice form part of the programme:
Pastoral care of pupils: 30 hours - 2 ECTS credits,
Teaching practice (teaching the main subject): 120 hours - 8,5 ECTS credits,
Teaching practice (teaching the secondary subject): 60 hours - 4 ECTS credits when the secondary subject is teaching a foreign language and 6 ECTS credits when the secondary subject is teaching 'History and civic education'
