Sinological Proseminar 3600-19-SIW2-PS3
The course is designed to prepare the student to write a thesis (bachelor's thesis) at all stages of the process. This task will be accomplished in the first phase by theoretical discussion of the methodological conditions of the thesis, in the second phase by the students' use of the acquired knowledge.
Students will acquire knowledge about the development of knowledge and science, scientific writing in the broadest sense;
They will become acquainted with the types of scientific papers, the methodology of writing scientific papers; they will learn how to search and appropriately select sources for a scientific paper, how to prepare a plan for a scientific paper and a grant application or a conference submission, a conference lecture and a scientific article; they will learn how to edit a scientific paper (quoting source texts, creating footnotes, the thematic scope of fixed elements of a paper: introduction, conclusion) and how to write a scientific paper on their own.

Knowledge:
• the student will know the state of research in the field of selected issues of the Chinese civilization circle (K_W17, H1A_W06)
• the student will know and understand the basic concepts and principles of intellectual property and copyright protection (K_W20, H1A_W08, +) Skills:
• the student will be able to search, analyze, evaluate and use information from various sources (K_U01, H1A_U01)
• the student will be able to fluently use the writing system and tools for its learning and analysis (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, language corpora, databases, etc.) (K_U16, H1A_U10)
• the student will acquire the skills needed to prepare the seminar: will be able to select and find sources and studies written in Western and Chinese languages, will know the technique of writing seminar papers (K_U18, H1A_U08, H1A_U09)
• the student will be able to apply basic knowledge of the methodology of research on culture at work (K_U19, H1A_U09)
• the student will be able to choose and formulate the subject of the BA thesis, select and find sources, including sources in Chinese, refer to the basic theoretical approaches (K_U20, H1A_U08)
• the student will have the ability to present detailed issues in the field of cultural issues of the Chinese civilization circle, taking into account the intellectual tradition of the Chinese civilization circle (K_U21, H1A_U09)
• the student will have the ability to formulate their own opinions and conclusions in writing and in speech (K_U22, H1A_06, H1A_09)
• the student will have the skill of substantive argumentation using the views of other authors. (K_U23, H1A_U06)
• the student will be able to use electronic and internet tools in Polish, Chinese and Western languages (K_U24, H1A_07)
• the student will be able to communicate with specialists in the field of science and scientific disciplines relevant to the field of "oriental studies" with the use of modern computer techniques (K_U25, H1A_U07)
• the student will be able to independently acquire knowledge and develop research skills, following the guidance of a research tutor (K_U26, H1A_U03)

Assessment criteria
Assessment credit.
In the winter semester the grade is influenced by:
-) preparation of assigned presentations and assignments (90%)

In the summer semester, the assessment is influenced by:

Compulsory classes. Two unexcused absences are allowed per semester. If excused absences exceed 30%, the student will not receive credit for the course. Lateness of more than 15 minutes is treated as absence.

Bibliography
It is recommended to study any textbook on writing scientific papers. For example, Jerzy Apanowicz "Methodological conditions of scientific work". The choice of literature for the final thesis depends on the student's personal interests.
