Selected Issues in Methodology of Linguistic Research 3222-32MBJ5K-N
Classes are designed to master the methodology of linguistic research by students. The course aims to introduce the methods of linguistic research, including comparative, structural, descriptive, transformational and others. students will get acquainted with selected methodological issues related to synchronous and diachronic linguistics, with methods of collecting language material. Classes lead to independent linguistic research.
The language material necessary for acquaintance with the methods of linguistic research expands the linguistic competence of students, since classes are conducted in Ukrainian.
If there is no possibility to conduct classes in a stationary form, classes will be held using remote communication tools, most likely Google meet and recommended by the university.
The estimated total number of hours that the student must spend to achieve the learning outcomes defined for the subject – 60 hours.
Classes-30 hours.
Independent work of the student: Current preparation for Classes – 15 hours, preparation for passing – 15 hours.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student:
1. knowledge:
- knows and understands to an advanced degree the methodological specifics of the subject, terminology and the specifics of philological studies (S1_W01);
- knows and understands to an advanced degree the complex nature of language and the complexity and historical variability of its meanings (S1_W06);
2. skills:
- is able to use theoretical concepts, research paradigms and concepts relevant to the methodology of linguistic research in typical professional situations (S1_U04);
- can communicate with specialists in the field of linguistics and translators in polish and Ukrainian using various communication channels and techniques (s1_u06).
Assessment criteria
Conditions for admission to credit:
- ongoing preparation for classes,
- attendance at classes (the student has the right to two absences).
Assessment components:
- continuous, formative assessment (current preparation for classes, activity, etc.) – 10%
- written credit-90%.
Credit criteria (percentage thresholds):
99% -100% - 5 !(very good with exclamation mark)
96% - 98 % - 5 (very good)
87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus)
78% - 86% - 4 (good)
69% - 77% - 3+ (sufficient plus)
60% – 68% - 3 (satisfactory)
The student has the right to pass the subject in the revision session on the same principles as the basic session.
