Prerequisites (description)

During the Seminar classes students work on their MA projects, discussing their topics, plan of work and bibliography with the supervisor and colleagues. Individual presentations of the subject matter under study allow to improve the ability to formulate research problems and hypotheses , the selection of research methods and the use of different theoretical approaches.

Learning outcomes

The student knows detailed concepts and terminology used in archaeology (K_W02);
The student has an extended knowledge of the description, analysis and interpretation of archaeological sources (K_W03);
has a structured and theoretically underpinned knowledge of key issues in archaeology, including terminology, theories and methodology (K_W04);
knows and understands advanced methods of analysis and interpretation of information contained in scientific publications (K_W13);
is able to formulate research problems, create original concepts, formulate and test hypotheses in archaeology (K_U04);
is able to formulate conclusions, argue and create synthetic summaries taking into account various views (K_U05);
has the ability to conduct scientific polemics (K_U08);
is able to present research results in writing, using specialist scientific language and archaeological terminology (K_U11);
is able to present results of research in the form of oral presentations, using specialist scientific language and archaeological terminology (K_U12);
can correctly identify priorities for carrying out his/her own or contracted research task (K_U19);
is willing to use his/her knowledge and skills and is aware of the need to confront it with expert opinions (K_K01);
is ready to recognise the importance of artefacts, ecofacts and written sources as elements of the cultural heritage of humanity (K_K02);
is ready to assess the unique value of archaeological sources and their role in recreating the human past (K_K03);

Assessment criteria

Students finish the seminar with a master's thesis or with seminar work. Both seminar work and master's thesis are intended to prove the ability to formulate research questions in relation to a selected category of sources, to have the ability to formulate one's own conclusions, to argue and produce synthetic summaries, taking into account different views
