Basic economics 2500-PL-PS-SP311-23

The course presents basic issues and mechanisms in economics, primarily at the level of microeconomics, but also containing elements of macroeconomics. The course aims to show students the financial world through the eyes of an economist by introducing the basic concepts, models, assumptions, micro and macroeconomic relationships.
The first part of the course concerns microeconomic issues - topics related to market functioning, supply and demand mechanisms as well as the theory of consumer behavior (and the theory of producer behavior (will be discussed here. In this part of the course, students will also learn the basic types of market structures (mainly perfect competition and monopoly).
Further on, macroeconomics will be discussed. The role of the state in the economy and the main concepts of macroeconomics will be discussed. The main areas of interest will then be money and its functions, the concept, causes and effects of inflation and unemployment, as well as basic concepts related to fiscal policy
