Engineering Geology 1300-OGINC-GES
The classes include the methods of geological-engineering mapping. The result of these activities are:
- Geological cross-sections,
- Engineering Geological Atlas, made in 2-student teams, comprising the following analytical maps: documentation map, geological map, slope map, morphogenetic map, thickness map of the Quaternary deposits, hydroisobate map, hydroisohypse map, soil and bearing capacity map, a synthetic map of the engineering geological conditions and a geological-engineering cross-section.
All maps and cross sections are prepared based on archival data.

Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student:
- has knowledge to determine the spatial range and complexity of the geological-engineering environment (P2A_W01),
- demonstrates knowledge to create a geological model for geological-engineering and geotechnical documentation (P2A_W07),
- demonstrates knowledge to classify geological-engineering conditions and present them on maps, assess and predict geodynamic processes (P2A_W04),
- assesses and predicts geodynamic processes (P2A_W01),
- plans the range of study and analysis crucial for determining the model of the soil basement, determines the criteria used to assess geological-engineering conditions for various investments (P2A_U04),
- conducts analysis of geological-engineering conditions based on archival data (P2A_U03),
- prepares and edits analytical and synthesized maps (P2A_U06),
- identifies and predicts geodynamic processes and geohazards (P2A_U07),
- organizes and conducts team-work (P2A_K02),
- acquires data from various sources (institutions, companies, autonomy organs) (P2A_K05),
- has skills to present the obtained results (P2A_K02),
- conducts projects and documentation activities with application of safety and economy measures (P2A_K06)
Assessment criteria
- continuous assessment and activity during classes,
- preparation of an engineering geological atlas - each appendix in the atlas shall be approved by the instructor, unsuccessful appendices may be corrected only up to the last day of the class.
requirements: attendance at the classes - a maximum of three absences during the whole semester are allowed, a fourth absence causes the student to fail the classes
