Analysis of Biologically Active Compounds 1200-1CHMAZ5
Isolation and separation of organic compounds:
- extraction with chemical reaction,
- steam distillation,
- thin layer and column chromatography.
Identification of organic compounds:
- elemental analysis,
- mass spectrometry (MS),
- infrared spectroscopy (IR),
- ultraviolet and visible spectroscopy (UV/Vis),
- nuclear magnetic resonance (1 H NMR, 13C NMR, correlations, Nuclear Overhauser Effect).
Chromatographic methods:
- gas chromatography (GC),
- high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Prerequisites (description)
Student should have fundamental knowledge of organic chemistry, corresponding to introductory/general academic course (structure, properties, methods of synthesis and reactivity of organic compounds bearing selected functional groups).
Assessment criteria
Common written exam for lecture and seminar materials.
One unexcused absence of the student at the seminar is permissible.
